Their Society:
Magnuri are the other Matriarchal society. Though not as strict in
some ways as the Apolarins, they do have their standing out
features.
Females in the Magnuri culture are allowed to have as many mates
as they wish. Where as the male may only be with one female.
Their females make the rules and the males have to abide by them,
or else there are punishments that can befall them. The worst of
which is banishment.
Some females do choose to only have one partner, and though it is
unique only to have one, most will have at least two.
Physiology:
They are reptiles and as such if it gets extremely warm or too cold,
they'll begin to tire quickly. In these states, if the do fall asleep, they
will fall into hibernation, if the coldness or the warmth sustains itself,
it's possible for the Magnuri to die...
Magnuri normally eat acidic fruits, and not meat like many assume.
There are trees that grow their food on the branches on in the
ground along it's roots. The massive seeds of the Pahdori Tree are
very bitter and were of high acidity. Where culturally the seeds are
viewed more as large candy and treats over actual food.
The fruit of the Pahdori Tree can either be a deep red or a bright
yellow. The soft fruit is surrounded by a stiff rind that has a bitter
white 'fat' along the inside of it. Children in particular seem to like
this part of the fruit quite a bit.
Magnuri have soft feathery hair that is either a deep or light red or
purple.
Nowadays there's no stigma attached to having Red hair, where as
once, it was viewed as a bad omen due to that being the colour of
plants that were particularly poisonous. That was also the colour
one's scales would begin to turn when they became infected with a
deadly illness which has since disappeared from their lives due to
generations slowly growing an immunity to it.
Where they Live:
Magnuri live in Dwellings that are in the swamp and marsh
area's of lower central Sahnlinn.
This area isn't easily traveled by the other species, and
tends to remain a place that hasn't been heavily explored.
Animals have been known to get lost in the marshy lands,
getting stuck and eventually drowning or starving to death
due to not being able to get free.
Tall branch less trees known as the Reca Tree also grow in
the area. These look starkly different than the many limbed,
thick trunked, Pahdori Tree.
This area sees lots of rain, and it is the rains that bring in the
water needed for the Blooming of the Lion Weed plants. The
red pods that spout from it, hold white fruit that is very rich in
vitamins and can also be used to make creams for their skin,
and a paste that's good for their newly hatched Squibs to eat.
Squib (Squibby Baby): Magnurai lay eggs in ones or twos. Their eggs
are large and spherical. The eggs require tending, and tend to rest in
red moss nests and then covered with Black Moss so the sun can keep
them warm. Another thing that can be done if weather is bad or if it's the
rainy season and sun without rain is rare, a heat stone can be used.
For the first month, Squibs are helpless. They can wiggle, and maybe
worm their way to a place but it's not very fast. During this month, nubs
will begin to grow to show where their hind legs and arms are going to
come in. Shortly after the nubs come in, Squibs will begin to move around
in an upright manner.
Squibs get to be full of personality very quickly and some are more
headstrong than others. At this age, males and females are together but
don't play together, from there as they get older and their limbs grow in
more, the time together between males and females becomes more
common. By this time, both genders know where their 'roll' is, and
conflicts due to not conforming to what one should is rare.
Squibs will continue to grow out of their fat snake like body and into a
more child body until they are between seven and ten. Once they have
reached that age, they are considered babies no more, and then fit into
the 'youth' category. They will remain youths until they are twenty years
of age, where they then are considered adults.
If a youth wishes to be 'promoted' into adult hood sooner, they must do
the 'Trial of Passage' which simply consists of going to the edge of their
land and retrieving a specific flowering fruit. IF they can do this task, they
will come back as an adult.
Poison:
Magnuri's have poison sacks located at their hips, and by their lungs, these are then connected to a 'reservoir' of poison
which is behind the stomach. The poison comes from the claws at their hands and feet.
Since their joining to the Empire, buying anti-venom is possible. Due to the sheer amount of other species that are part of
the Empire, this was a necessary precaution. If an adequate amount of venom has been entered into the body, and nothing
is done. The one effected will slowly become dizzy, numb, and then fall asleep and not wake up.
Due to the now high amount of people wishing to experiment with inter-species 'activities' a non- Magnuri partner becoming
poisoned by the physical interactions is high.
There are Contraceptive Potions which will protect someone against the poison of a Magnuri. At this time, there are only
two Potion Makers, 'Wessin Potions' and the popular among youths 'Have a Fun Day' brand potions that have what is
needed to protect people from the poison. There is an effort being passed, to try to add what is needed to All potions, to
allow anyone to be safe from Magnuri poison. Due to the upsides and downsides, other ideas are being implemented, to try
to curb the accidental poisonings.
One way to prevent this at the moment is getting one's claws capped. Though uncomfortable for the first while, one can
become used to the metal or crystal caps.
Due to the way the poison is made, it is not possible to make it where the Magnuri will not produce it. Since it is a
by-product of digestion.
